Myofascial Release

Some of our therapists have completed training in the John F Barnes’ Myofascial Release Approach. This style of training focuses on the “release” or “unwinding” of the vast structure within the body, the fascia.

Fascia, which encapsulates all major organs, muscles, nerves, etc, beginning in the brain and ending in the feet, winds tightly like a rope as a result of injury, trauma/inflammation, and poor posture. The restricted fascia is capable of placing tension on the body up to 2,000 pounds per square inch, often resulting in pain, muscle tension, and diminished blood flow. Myofascial pain can be generated from the skeletal muscle or connective that is ‘bound down’ by the restricted fascia, or from damaged myofascial tissue itself.

The release of fascia is very gentle, very safe, and highly effective for long-term mind/body healing. The therapist will choose regions of the body to place a very light pressure on muscles and will place these muscles on stretch for prolonged periods of time. The patient’s own physiological responses will guide each treatment session.
