Kinesiotaping

Kinesiotaping is a therapeutic technique in which a specialized elastic tape is applied over specific body parts to relieve pain and improve muscle function. The tape can be stretched or unstretched when applying depending on the primary objective of the treatment.

For damaged muscle, the tape is usually applied UNSTRETCHED . After application, the taped skin will form small folds when the underlying tissues contract back to their normal position. When the skin is lifted this way, the flow of blood and lymphatic fluid beneath the skin improves.

If joints or ligaments are injured, the tape can be STRETCHED before being applied to the skin.  Since the injured joint and/or ligaments are not functioning properly, the stretched tape helps to improve the quality of motion, thereby reducing the stress on the underlying tissues and assisting the muscles to maintain joint integrity.

The main benefits of  Kinesio Taping

  • Decreased pain
  • Muscle re-education
  • Limits over-use of muscle tissue
  • Decreased muscle cramping
  • Reduced swelling/edema
  • Improved joint mobility
