Ergonomics

Ergonomics is defined as the “study of people’s efficiency in their working environment.” This branch of healthcare is often adopted by companies to improve efficiency and reduce the risk of injury for employees.  Physical Therapists who have experience and training in ergonomics are often asked to visit worksites to assess individuals, and their workstations, to help achieve these goals.

There are many factors that can contribute to injury in the workplace. Poor workplace design, repetitive motion, and improper lifting technique are just a few of the issues a Physical Therapist may address. By working with you and your employer, your therapist will provide reasonable solutions to common problems that may be limiting your ability to perform your essential functions, or causing you to experience an increase in symptoms as a result of work.

If you routinely experience pain at the end of your workday, have pain that worsens over the course of your work week, or you have sustained an injury at work as a result of performing your regular duties, consulting with a Physical Therapist may help you to treat the immediate symptoms and prevent them from returning.
