Many of us will go to a yearly physical with our primary care physicians to maintain good health. This physical Involves a brief history, and standard checkups of several body systems. Although there is a gross look at the musculoskeletal system, there is a wide variety of signs and symptoms besides pain that may be missed in a typical physical. Symptoms such as, decreased endurance, weakness, and loss of range of motion are specifics that a physical therapist will examine, and is why many health organizations such as the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) are recommending people add a yearly checkup with their physical therapist into their routine. A yearly PT checkup can result in early detection of some musculoskeletal conditions, as well as preventative measures to correct posture, gait, lifting and running form, preventing injuries down the road.
